We spend our lives growing up. Having a responsibility for the welfare of others can speed the maturing process. But this also depends on your attitude, whether your outlook is loving or self pitying.

Some pivotal points in my coming of age are when I stopped saying, "When I grow up,..." And when I realized I was not the center of creation. That is, not everyone was focused on me. Consequently I didn't have to worry so much about what others thought of me, since they were too busy worrying about their own self images.

Some people feel mature in their mid to late teens; others, not until much later in life. I didn't feel like an adult until I was in my thirties, which, I agree, is late. Though many years have passed since then, I still enjoy running in the halls.

I think there are some people who live more life by the time they are 12-years-old, than most people ever will. They may be 12-years-old, going on 33. I also think there are people in their 70's who will never be emotionally mature. When I was in the military, I saw a lot of men in their early to mid 20's who were not emotionally mature, and not prepared for life. I have a lot of nieces and nephews that age, and they were raised too strict, and now that they are in college, they cannot deal with the real world. They were not raised to know what kind of people are in the real world, so they are shocked and horrified and not capable of dealing with the real world. I think it just depends on the person.

People mature at much different times, partly due to personal experiences and circumstances. I matured quickly when I got married and had that responsibility at 21 yrs.

In my opinion, when a person is in a position that he has full control over his emotions can be called that he is emotionally mature. Mind it, that i hv never met any person of that sort as yet.
